01 / OVERVIEWProject Overview

A materials company that deals with heat,
two names

TERAON is a materials company established in 2018. Heating materials made of carbon nanotubes and graphene are made into thin film heater VESTATON®, and TERABOND®, a chip bonding agent that attaches SiC power semiconductor chips to the substrate. It became an affiliate of SK Siltron in 2022, and produces materials and heaters at two factories in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do.

BlueCanvas will be responsible for hosting and maintaining the TERAON website from 2025. In January of this year, we sent the first four renewal design proposals, and in October, we again proposed two moving design proposals for what the site would be like if it were redrawn from scratch. This page is a record of my deliberations between two proposals.

03NEWSOne piece of news
This is the current configuration of the main page (as of October 2026). Two of the three screens have a “Learn More” pop-up, and the eight parts inside the car, the test results of the chip bonding agent, and the specification table are all included in the pop-up.
  1. 01
    Three screens, two pop-ups

The main page is now three full screen pages. The test results, process, and specification table for the eight parts inside the car, hands-off detection, and chip bonding agent are all contained in two pop-ups that can be opened by clicking “Read More.” What the company was most proud of was hidden behind the first screen.

  2. 02
Specifications written in three separate places

The thermal conductivity, process temperature, and chip size of the chip bonding agent are listed separately in the main pop-up, on the chip bonding agent page, and in the Advanced Materials section of the company introduction. On the operating side, when changing one number, three places must be adjusted together.

  3. 03
    Tagline trapped in picture

「Warm the Human, Cool The Earth」 appears only in the logo picture on the company introduction page. Because it is a picture, not text, it cannot be captured by searches or screen-reading programs.

  4. 04
    invisible heat

The advantage of VESTATON® is that the entire surface is evenly heated, and the advantage of TERABOND® is that heat drains well beneath the chips. Both are stories of invisible heat, but the site only explains them with rendered images and numbers.

03 / TWO DIRECTIONSHeat in two directions

Materials that heat
materials that cool

Before starting the renewal, I again wrote down what the two products do. VESTATON® receives electricity and generates heat throughout the film, while TERABOND® removes heat from underneath the chip. Two products from one company were dealing with heat in opposite directions.

Source of figures: Film heater, chip bonding agent, company introduction page on TERAON website (October 2026)

  1. WARM · VESTATON®

One sheet of film heats the entire surface

The electricity flowing between the electrodes passes through the carbon nanotubes and graphene particles and becomes heat. Unlike heating wires that heat by laying down wires, heat is generated from anywhere on the surface, so it heats evenly even when attached to curved surfaces or complex shapes.

  2. WARM · TO THE HUMAN

    Heat goes towards people

The heated film directly warms nearby bodies with far-infrared rays. When touched, the touch sensor lowers the temperature to prevent low-temperature burns. This is why they are placed close to people, such as on the door trim, console, and floor of electric vehicles.

  3. COOL · TERABOND®

The heat from the chip escapes downward.

SiC power semiconductors generate heat every time they are turned on and off. TERABOND® becomes a sintered silver layer between the chip and the copper substrate, transferring the heat to the substrate and heat sink.

  4. COOL · TO THE EARTH

The less hot it is, the less it leaks.

If heat is dissipated well, the chip gets less hot and loses less electricity. TERAON discloses test results showing that Rds(on) is approximately 5% lower than that of pressurized film-type bonding materials in the same package.

  5. OUR READING

    There was already one sentence

A product that sends heat toward the person and a product that sends heat out of the chip. “Warm the Human, Cool the Earth” written in the logo illustration on the company introduction page clearly speaks of this relationship. Both designs used this sentence as the framework of the site.

WARMDirect heat towards people

VESTATON®

A heating material mixed with carbon nanotubes and graphene flakes was packaged in a thin film. When electricity is applied, heat is generated throughout the film, and people nearby are immediately warmed by far-infrared rays. Unlike the method of heating the air by blowing wind, this is a heater that is attached to the area you want to heat.

COOLHeat flows out of the chip

TERABOND®

This is a chip bonding agent that attaches SiC power semiconductor chips to the substrate. Silver (Ag) is sintered at low temperature without pressure to create a dense layer under the chip, and the heat generated every time the chip is turned on is drawn out toward the substrate and heat sink. The better the heat dissipation, the less hot the chip will be and the less power it will lose.

Feel the numbers
with your hands

“Heating uniformity over 98%” and “voids within 5%” appear as numbers with the same weight in the specification table. To show what these two numbers actually change, I created two small experiments to simply calculate how heat spreads. This is a device that can be placed on the product page of the renewal site.

VESTATON® LAB

Should I heat it with line or with cotton?

If the same power is applied to several rows of heated wires, the areas between the rows become less heated and streaks appear. When heat is generated throughout the film, the surface is evenly heated. If you hold down the film, the temperature of the area you touch will decrease. This is what TERAON film’s touch sensor does.

Gaps trap heat.

If an air bubble (void) forms in the bonding layer between the chip and the substrate, heat is blocked in that spot, creating a hot spot on the chip. Push the bar to expand the gap. TERAON revealed that the voids of TERABOND® were within 5% in the global power module evaluation of demand companies.

06 / COLORcolor

Orange
is the color of about 150℃

TERAON's promotional video shows the film being heated in the colors of a thermal imaging camera. Cold areas become purple, hot areas change from orange to white. When I stretched this scale from 20℃ to 250℃ and looked up the orange in the logo, it was placed at about 152℃.

The oranges in both designs are also gathered in the same place. So I decided on one color rule. The hotter the color, the more heat there is in the scene, and orange is only used where there is heat.

Oranges with different pairs on each background

Logo Orange #D35222 in small letters is 4.2:1 on white background and 4.6:1 on black background. The text spans 4.5:1, which is not large enough for any background. So, the logo orange was placed on the logo and large numbers, and the small letters were pressed or brightened by one level depending on the background. Click the button to compare.

Orange is used only for heated scenes, buttons and the most important numbers. Do not cover the large surface with orange.

  2. 02Oranges paired for each background

Logo Orange is 4.2:1 on white background and 4.6:1 on black background, so it's not wide in either direction. Small letters are written in dark orange on a white background, or light orange on a black background.

  3. 03Thermal imaging scales are in order

The order of purple, red, orange, yellow, and white is not reversed. Do not paint cold things yellow or hot things purple.

  4. 04TERABOND® is cold

VESTATON®, which produces heat, is placed on the warm side, and TERABOND®, which removes heat, is placed on the navy and blue side. You can tell which product you are talking about just by looking at the color.

Number typesetting

The TERAON site has an unusually large number of numbers with units, such as temperature, thickness, thermal conductivity, and resistivity. The same number is written differently on each page, such as 8x8mm² or 8×8㎟, so we set rules for using numbers and units in both designs.

The text is Gothic in both designs. Proposal A was short and solid in Inter and Noto Sans KR, and Proposal B was made to read like a laboratory record by adding Sora for the English title and JetBrains Mono for data display on top of Pretendard.

WARM · COOL · BASE

First, I wrote down the people who visit this site. There were seven categories: engineers from automobile and parts companies, power semiconductor packaging engineers, equipment and construction managers, purchasing and quality managers, investors and media, and job applicants. Most people come in looking for one of the two products.

So, we regrouped the menu from five sections centered on the company into three sections centered on the direction of heat. Products that produce heat are WARM, products that remove heat are COOL, and the story of the company that produces the two products is BASE. Pick a visitor below and we'll brighten the path he or she will walk through.

09 / MOTIONmotion

Turns on, flows,
expands

There are three principles of movement: The first is the movement of colors that are used together in both designs, and the second and third are movements that are evenly matched for each design. If you turn on “Reduce Motion” on your device, both designs stop large movements and display all content on a fixed screen.

  1. 01

It gets warm when you turn it on.

As the scene turns on by scrolling, the colors increase along the thermal imaging scale from purple to orange to white. The numbers in B glow with the color of this scale as they go up.

  2. 02

    material flows

In A, carbon ribbons and thermal particles flow across the screen, and the VESTATON® film unfolds into three layers and then overlaps again. Movement is the texture of the material.

  3. 03

    magnification increases

In B, the SCALE scale on the right increases from nanometers to millimeters, meters, and kilometers. From material to Earth, it always tells you what size you are looking at.

Proposal A · Flow

THERMAL FLOWDiscovering new energy possibilities in materials

This direction briefly and quickly shows the process by which carbon material flows like a ribbon and becomes heat, film, and product. In the first screen, orange particles flow over a black carbon ribbon, and “HEAT.” CONNECT. TRANSFORM.” After the strip passes, the VESTATON® film spreads into three layers and overlaps again. The application areas change sequentially as you scroll, including electric vehicles, industrial heaters, and indoor spaces, and TERABOND® is organized into one SiC chip and three features. The last one is “Let’s create what’s next.” on an orange background.

  • Home screen with orange particles flowing over a black carbon ribbon
  • VESTATON® film opens and overlaps in three layers in accordance with the scroll
  • Application fields such as electric vehicles, industrial heaters, and indoor spaces change one after another
  • The quality section where the process video on the site has now been rewritten.

DIRECTION NOTES

Among the scenes in Proposal A, I chose a moment that I put a lot of effort into directing. Click on the photo to see a larger view of each scene.

  1. Small material. Extraordinary possibilities.

This is the first screen. Orange particles flow over the black carbon ribbon, and as you scroll, the ribbon moves closer to the screen. There is a MOTION ON button at the bottom right to stop the movement.

  2. HEAT. CONNECT. TRANSFORM.

“We discover the potential for new energy in materials,” lights up line by line, and then a three-word band flows across the screen.

  3. Thin and flexible. The warmth is closer.

The VESTATON® film is fixed to the screen and spreads into three layers, and the text on the right changes to the order of material, energy, and possibility.

  4. Naturally, everywhere.

The field of application changes to a bright sage background, and as you scroll, three scenes, an electric car, an industrial heater, and an indoor space, move one after another. You can also move it right away by pressing the tab.

  5. Heat is transmitted precisely even in various shapes.

Industrial heater scene. It shows a cross-section of the jacket heater that surrounds the pipe and continues the story about how the film sticks to any shape.

  6. Small connections create big performance.

TERABOND® is summarized in only one SiC chip and three features: 150+W/mK · <15GPa · Pressureless, and quickly shows the difference between the two products in a short main article.

  7. From idea to quality.

The quality section has rewritten the process video on the site and organized it into an expanded list of the three stages of design, process, and verification.

  8. Let's create what's next.

The last one is a large sentence with an orange background and a link to contact us. The inquiry form will be used exactly as it is on the current site.

Proposal B · Magnification

WARM THE HUMAN, COOL THE EARTHWarmth to people and saved energy to the earth.

The tagline “Warm the Human, Cool the Earth” in the picture is brought out as the first sentence, and the direction follows the trend of the screen magnification increasing from nanometers to kilometers. The first screen, which starts from a carbon nanotube net, becomes a 0.07mm film, and two screens, WARM and COOL, open on both sides in the middle of the screen. VESTATON® divides the promotional video into eight scenes that scroll through eight parts of electric vehicles and three application areas. TERABOND® goes from an exploded view of the silver sintered layer under the chip to test values, processes, and specifications. The SCALE scale on the right tells you the magnification you are currently seeing, and the last one moves away from the electric car driving on the snowy road to an aerial view.

10 / PROCESSprocedure

From January's four directions
October's two directions

This is the second such proposal. In January, we sent the first four design proposals using the same structure in four colors and fonts. The first sentence of all four chapters was close to “Designing the future with nanocarbon technology,” and looking back, there was no heat anywhere.

In October, we chose “heat” instead of “future” as the subject of design. Below are the notes we added to the first design in January.

  1. 01 Premium · Cream Cormorant Garamond · Montserrat

    「The Art of Nano Carbon」

Although it was decorated luxuriously with gold and serifs, the temperature of the material, which can be heated to 250℃, was nowhere to be seen on the screen.

  2. 02 Premium · Black Cormorant Garamond · Noto Sans KR

「Designing the future with nanocarbon technology」

The dark background was good for showing heat, but gold replaced the heat color. The Korean title was relegated to the system name because it was a letter that was not in the English serif.

  3. 03 Corporate Plus Jakarta Sans · Noto Sans KR

“Designing the future of energy with nanocarbon technology”

It was easy to read and neat, but it was a screen that would fit any technology company as long as they changed the company name.

  4. 04 Soft DM Sans · Noto Sans KR

“Designing the future of energy with nanocarbon technology”

The soft pastels were friendly, but a far cry from the firmness of the material company that draws heat out from under the chips.

  1. 01Stories before clothes

All four chapters had the same order: Introduction → Product → Core Technology → History → Certification → News → Inquiry, with only the colors and fonts being different. In October, we first decided on the axis of the story and chose the colors.

  2. 02The numbers are only what is on the site.

“51+ registered patents” on the first screen was a number that added 25 registrations and 26 applications, and “10+ global partners” was a number for which no basis was found. For the two design proposals in October, only the numbers written on the TERAON site and promotional video were moved.

  3. 03The video is not a link but a scene

In January, we hung an entire promotional video. In October, the thermal imaging scenes in the video were scrolled one by one (Proposal B), or the process video was placed in the center of the quality story (Proposal A).

Four directions compared to October

To determine the axis of the story, I first compared the four directions with the first screen sketch. Two directions became the design proposal, and the other two directions were not thrown away but moved to the device and this case page in the design proposal.

  1. 01

    material flows

This direction briefly shows the process by which carbon materials flow like a ribbon and become films and products. Creates a quick brand impression.

Proposal A developed into Thermal Flow
  2. 02

    magnification increases

The direction is to increase the magnification of the screen from nanometer-scale materials to kilometer-scale snowscapes. Have them read the numbers and structures closely.

Proposal B evolved into Warm the Human, Cool the Earth
  3. 03

    See with thermal imaging

The direction is to view the entire site through the thermal imaging camera screen. Although it is strong, even the product photos and text were tied to one color rule, and were moved to the color of the numbers in B and the first screen of this case.

Number Color/Case Go to home screen
  4. 04

    Specification table first

The first screen opens with a specification table so engineers can find the numbers right away. Since the threshold is high for first-time visitors, I left the TERABOND® product information table and TDS button in B.

Proposal B specification table moved to TDS
  1. 01Read the site again now

We organized three main screens, two pop-ups, specifications repeated in three places, and taglines in the pictures.

  2. 02First design draft of January

We sent the first design proposal using the same structure with four colors and fonts.

  3. 03Guess the numbers

I matched the numbers on the site to each page, and organized the places where they were different into a separate checklist.

  4. 04Heat in two directions

The basis of the story is that VESTATON® and TERABOND® deal with heat in opposite directions.

  5. 05logo and colors

There is an O drawn as a power symbol, an orange with only two points, and a thermal imaging scale in one line.

  6. 06Two designs

We created a main page where you can actually scroll in two directions: flow and scale.

  7. 07scene without photo

Scenes that were difficult to capture with a camera, such as nano structures, sintered layers, and snow scenes, were newly drawn.

  8. 08Mobile and organized

We reorganized the scene on a 390px screen and organized the color, font, and movement standards.

So we decided on four things

The two designs have different movements from the first screen, but the four points below remain the same. This is because no matter which design proposal was chosen, the way the site was operated had to be the same.

  1. 01Numbers only have sources

Only the numbers written on the TERAON site and promotional video are transferred, and the research goal is written as “goal.” Different numbers are written after customer confirmation.

  2. 02Specifications in one place

Chip bonding specifications that were repeated in three places are placed in one place, and the table is retrieved from another page. There is only one place to fix it.

  3. 03The two products go in two directions

VESTATON®, which produces heat, is placed in a warm color, and TERABOND®, which removes heat, is placed in a cool color. You can see which product is being talked about on any page.

  4. 04The tagline is written in letters.

「Warm the Human, Cool the Earth」 in the picture is taken out as text and captured in search and screen reading programs.

Scenes without pictures were newly drawn.

Scenes that were difficult to capture with a camera, such as the carbon nanotube net or the sintered layer under the chip, were redrawn. We kept the product photos and process videos on the site as is, and set the ratio and focus for each scene so that they could be changed on the same spot when actual photos were created.
